The Technology Incubator consists of partitioned bays that houses food processing equipment for demonstration of different process lines. Each process line will be licensed to suitable investors under a Technology Package. The technology package will include, but is not limited to product formulation, plant layout, equipment specifications, potential equipment suppliers, packaging specifications, profitability analysis, etc.
The objective of the Technology Package is to assist investors, entrepreneurs and the wider society in developing more sustainable businesses by using locally available products.
The CED and by extension, CARIRI, believes in creativity being implemented, which is our definition of Innovation and the Technology Packages allows us the opportunity to develop and create innovative process lines that will benefit all citizens of our nation.
Description of Services Provided
The technology incubators serve as showcases for process lines to be licensed. Currently there are four (4) lines on showcase. These include: Garlic, Soy and Cassava and Mushrooms.
The Cassava line has two primary products: cassava flour and farine. From these primary products, secondary products, such as cassola, cassava porridge, shake and bake, etc, can be produced.
The garlic line produces primary products, namely whole peeled and minced garlic. In addition, this line supplies investors with secondary bottled products such as minced garlic cooked with oil and pimento, chadon beni or hot pepper.
The Mushroom Technology Package has been developed to promote diversity in the agriculture sector. It allows farmers to grow Oyster mushrooms by purchasing growing bags without having to obtain technical microbial training required for making the growing bags.Industries Served:
Agricultural sector, Restaurants, SupermarketsServices Provided
The Mushroom Technology Bay houses the production of growing bags from the raw substrate material to the incubated growing bag. Once the bags have completed their incubation period, they are ready to be harvested and sold. Oyster mushrooms require a specific growing environment and CED will also provide technical information for the design and layout of a growing house.
Each process line that is developed is available for license. We welcome inquiries.
The process for licensing of the technology packs is quite simple – there will be an ad in the daily newspapers calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI). All the EOIs go to our Evaluating Committee that then shortlists specific persons/companies. After which, a face-to-face interview may be conducted and then the license is awarded.
